We are very happy to once again offer a weekend retreat in Dala-Floda where we take a deep dive into the Wim Hof method. You will learn a number of techniques and how they can help you on multiple levels and in different situations in life.
Ice bathing – a hot trend
Ice bathing has become increasingly popular in recent years but is actually nothing new, but it is difficult to talk about ice bathing without mentioning Wim Hof. Wim Hof is a Dutch man with more than 20 world records, all with cold as the theme. Wim has run marathons barefoot in the snow, climbed Mt Everest in shorts, swam under ice, and bathed in ice baths for two hours.
Using science as a tool, he has shown us that we humans have much greater control over our own immune system than previously thought. Based on his discoveries, he has developed the tools or pillars that form the foundation of the Wim Hof Method. It’s about breathing exercises, ice baths (or other cold exposure), and shaping a mental attitude – a mindset.

Within the Wim Hof Method, WHM, we use the three pillars; breathing, cold exposure, and mindset to create a rich experience and provide participants with practical tools for their respective lives.
Cold exposure
Through cold, we learn how to, in a healthy way, handle stress in our bodies and our lives. It can be tough and painful, but it can also be a key to a positive change in our lives.
This technique is explained within WHM as Hormetic stress – a short-term stress that has a strengthening effect on our physical and mental well-being.
Exposing yourself to Hormetic stress brings benefits such as:
Countering depression
Inhibiting inflammation (helping to alleviate and heal autoimmune diseases)
Countering stress and lowering heart rate
Increasing your ability to handle stress in our daily lives and calming the nervous system
Improving blood circulation
Increasing the number of white blood cells
Strengthening and balancing your immune system
Strengthening the mind and character
Healthy weight loss by reducing white fat and increasing brown, energy-rich fat
Raising energy levels and focus over time
Aiding in clearing the body’s waste products
Having a positive effect on hair and skin
Training the body and mind to be at their best regardless of the season
Learning to handle cold and heat better
Breathing exercises
When we are not present, we let external circumstances and our emotions control us. In yoga, martial arts, zen, and many meditation techniques, breathing and awareness of one’s own breath are at the core. There are good reasons for this. By increasing awareness of our own breathing and how our breath enters and exits us, we can become more present in what truly is. This in turn disconnects our thinking mind and makes room for intuition, allowing the deeper parts of the brain to be activated.
Our blood flow changes, and we can activate the parasympathetic nervous system related to rest and recovery. Similarly, we can activate the sympathetic nervous system to increase energy when we need to deal with stressful situations. We can harness these different states with willpower, and with practice, this leads to us being less reactive, less stressed, more grateful, and more focused. We can improve our physical performance and become better at managing and channeling our energy, thus becoming more creative and intuitive. And here we are just scratching the surface of what conscious breathing can entail.
You will learn different breathing techniques and experience for yourself how these change your state and well-being.
Less stress
Gives you control over your nervous system
Strengthens your immune system
Strengthens your diaphragm
Provides better sleep
Improves your blood circulation
Gives you more energy
Helps you focus
Helps you find peace and harmony
Has healing properties
And much more
Mindset – your mental attitude
Mindset is the glue that holds everything together. You know best what you need and what you want to achieve, improve, change, or get out of your life. Conscious breathing and ice baths go a long way, but to reach the very end, intention, discipline, and dedication are required. With strong intention and mental attitude, you can break through what holds you back or heal what needs to be healed. This is where you give yourself the opportunity to see the greatest possible effect of working with the other two pillars.
Every breath we take, every ice bath we lower our bodies into teaches us something. When we, with the help of willpower, face challenges such as ice baths, this is then reflected in all parts of life. Things that previously felt difficult and tough become easier, and sometimes even fun. By training our focus, resilience, and determination, we soon discover that we can do much more than we previously thought.
Clearer focus
Better ability to handle your mood, emotions, and thoughts
Increase your stress tolerance
A calmer mind
Improved self-confidence
A more resilient and balanced mind
Strengthened character
Help finding direction
Increased determination
